Koenigsegg takes four world records in a single run

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut shatters the 0-400-0 km/h record.

KOENIGSEGG

Back in May 2023, Koenigsegg's single-gear Regera was dethroned as the 0-400-0 king by an electric car. To its credit, the Rimac Nevera is a 1914 hp quad-motor electric rocketship of an EV. The Nevera accelerated to 400 kph and came to a halt in 29.93 seconds. Given Koenigsegg's competitive nature when concerned with records, it's fair to say they were keen to take back the title. Hence, in late 2023, Koenigsegg revived the Regera and did exactly that, with a time of 28.81 seconds.

However, Koenigsegg has come a long way since the 1500-horsepower hybrid Regera. With three models including the Jesko Attack and the Gemera, the Koenigsegg lineup is the most extensive it has ever been, and arguably the most impressive. The third model, in particular, is the protagonist of record-breaking straight-line performance.

The Jesko Absolut was designed with the sole purpose of being the fastest Koenigsegg ever. It shares its engine, chassis, and name with the Jesko Attack, but the distinction comes in its aerodynamic profile. Where the Jesko Attack prioritizes downforce (big wing!), the Absolut is all about reducing drag and maximizing top speed. Not to say it is a milk float in the corners, though.

Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh piloted the Jesko Absolut for the record run, achieving a time of 27.83 seconds, overthrowing the Regera's time of 28.81 seconds. Lundh didn't just set one world record; he also hit a top speed of 256 mph, breaking three additional records in the process. The low-drag hypercar achieved 0-400 km/h in 18.82 seconds, 0-250-0 mph in 28.27 seconds, and 0-250 mph in 19.20 seconds. With its twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine running on E85 fuel and sending 1578 hp to standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, Lundh sprinted to 400 km/h in 18.82 seconds, reached 250 mph in 19.20 seconds, and completed 0-250-0 mph in 28.27 seconds. Remarkably, the reported top speed of 256 mph (412 km/h), suggests that the Absolut has even more time in its pockets. In the words of Mercedes Formula One driver George Russel, crikey.
