The Honda 0 Series cars aim to look distinct in a sea of crossovers
Honda aims to position itself at the forefront of automotive innovation in the future with its Honda 0 Series prototypes.
The Honda 0 SUV prototype marks a significant milestone as the first model in the Honda 0 Series destined for production. Showcased at CES 2025, the Honda 0 SUV and the Honda 0 Saloonexemplify the company’s commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology and redefining mobility through its "Thin, Light, and Wise" development approach. Continuing from the futuristic Space-Hub concept unveiled at CES last year, the mid-size EV SUV is based on Honda’s newly developed dedicated EV architecture. This platform emphasizes spaciousness, flexibility, and visibility, delivering a cabin designed to be an ambient space for its passengers. The "Thin, Light, and Wise" ethos is evident in the vehicle’s streamlined exterior and highly functional interior. The focus on minimalism ensures a spacious and adaptable cabin without compromising on style.
The SUV integrates Honda’s proprietary ASIMO OS, named after its beloved humanoid robots, which supports "ultra-personal optimization" and advanced digital user experiences (UX). This system tailors the vehicle’s functionalities to individual preferences, enhancing the driving experience. By eliminating the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the road, the steer-by-wire system integrates control over steering, suspension, and brakes, as seen on the Tesla cybertruck.
As the flagship of the Honda 0 Series, the Honda 0 Saloon embodies the pinnacle of the brand’s EV vision. Staying true to its bold design language, the Saloon combines a sporty, wedge-shaped exterior with a surprisingly spacious interior. It sort of looks like a Lamborghini Gallardo crossed with the Odyssey minivan. The prototype aims to take the concept model showcased at CES 2024 to new heights, integrating advanced features and technologies. With its low-ish height and aerodynamic profile, the Saloon’s design sets it apart from conventional EVs. And it has pop-up headlights! (in a way) If anything, they are akin to the eyelid headlights of the Ferrari Daytona SP3.
The cabin’s innovative layout maximizes interior space while maintaining a relatively compact footprint. Backed by Honda’s Level 3 automated driving system, the Saloon offers reliable semi-autonomous driving capabilities, ensuring both safety and convenience in various driving conditions. Honda aims for the 0 series cars to be the first level 3 autonomous driving capable cars on the road. The "Wise" aspect of the Honda 0 Series shines through with features like its ultra-personal optimization, enabling the Saloon to adapt seamlessly to the unique preferences and habits of its occupants.
Both prototypes are being developed and manufactured at Honda’s state-of-the-art EV Hub in Ohio. This facility underscores Honda’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and cutting-edge EV development. By centralizing production at this hub, Honda aims to streamline its processes, reduce emissions, and ensure the highest standards of quality for its vehicles. Scheduled for production at the Ohio EV Hub, the Honda 0 Saloon will debut in the North American market in late 2026 before expanding to Japan, Europe, and other regions.
The Honda 0 SUV and Saloon prototypes signify more than just new models; they represent a shift in how we think about mobility. With a focus on creating "ever-advancing" spaces, Honda is redefining vehicles as adaptable, user-centric environments. From steer-by-wire technology to highly personalized digital experiences, the Honda 0 Series aims to set a new benchmark for the EV industry. As the countdown to production begins, the automotive world eagerly anticipates the arrival of these models. With their blend of cutting-edge technology, innovative design, and Honda’s legendary reliability, the Honda 0 SUV and Saloon are poised to leave an indelible mark on the future of electric mobility. Perhaps we will see the real deal at next year's CES.
