Bugatti Celebrates the End of the Chiron's Legacy with the L'Ultime

BUGATTI

After nearly a decade of countless variations and special editions, production of the Bugatti Chiron has come to a definitive end. The final car, #500 of 500, is aptly christened "L'Ultime" and pays homage to the original Chiron unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show.

Upon the Chiron's unveiling on that fine evening in 2016, it was declared that production would be limited to just 500 units. Since then, it has taken on a plethora of guises, such as the track-bred Pur Sport and the record-breaking Super Sport. Innumerable limited editions and coachbuilt specials emerged in subsequent years, seemingly extending the Chiron's life indefinitely. But this is the very last one. This is the final dance of the fabled hypercar.

The L'Ultime started life as a Chiron Super Sport, the leather-laden rocketship that is essentially an electronically-limited version of the car that famously broke the 300 mph barrier. The Super Sport comes courtesy of 16 cylinders conjoined in a W configuration, 4 turbochargers, 1600 PS, and 1600 Nm of torque—figures that never fail to boggle the mind.

Overlaying the longtail carbon fiber bodywork is a gorgeous 'Atlantis Blue' and 'French Racing Blue' gradient paintwork, echoing the colors of the original Geneva car. The sides of the car feature the names of landmark venues of the Chiron story; "the launch in Geneva, appearances at Chantilly, testing phases at the Paul Ricard circuit and the 300 mph run at the Ehra-Lessien testing track. And, of course, the historic Bugatti home in Molsheim".

Numerous handwritten "#500"s adorn the exterior of the car, crafted with the level of craftsmanship one would expect from a Bugatti motor car. Bugatti calls it a "vibrant piece of bespoke art," and this is exhibited in the meticulous attention to detail pervading every inch of the car.

Inside, you will find the most exquisite samples of hand-crafted leather, metal, and carbon fiber, in various shades of blue, in keeping with the theme of the exterior.

Throughout its life, the Chiron has proven to be a symbol of automotive excellence. Its magnificent W16 engine has pushed the limits of what the internal combustion engine can accomplish. Its performance, at the time of its introduction, was unimaginable. The Chiron has marked a significant era for Bugatti, and the final farewell to this icon is worthy of its honor. Now, the company looks ahead to the future, with the prospect of collaboration with Rimac and the recently announced V16 engine.
