BMW has extinguished the M3's horsepower deficiency with the refreshed 2025 M3

Although, no one really demanded that the M3 needed more power, probably.

BMW has updated its M3 lineup for 2025 with new headlights, wheels, and more power. However, it should be noted that only the xDrive "Competition" models benefit from the power boost.

BMW

According to BMW, the "optimized configuration of the engine management system" has resulted in an increase of 20 horsepower, with the straight six generating 523 horsepower at 6,250 rpm in the M3 xDrive Competition Sedan and Wagon. The BMW aficionados amongst you might recognize that figure, as the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in the M Performance X5 and X7 generates the same amount. With the power increase, the xDrive models further distinguish themselves from the rear wheel drive M3s, further supported by the increase in torque to 479 lb-ft.

The product of these improvements, BMW claims, is a "more ferocious, sustained power delivery that adds another layer of intensity", and a reduced 0-60 for the M3 touring. The Sedan maintains a rapid 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds.

The aforementioned updated headlights are similar to that of the new M4, with vertical LED units that serve as daytime running lights and turn signal indicators. There are also new wheel options, familiar forged alloys now in bright silver.

The subtle differences continue inside, with a new flat-bottom steering wheel that can be optioned in either leather or Alcantara. The interior materials have been further refined, and the infotainment now runs on BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 Operating System.

Following its reveal in 2021, The G80 M3 soon overthrew debates over its controversial front grill design by proving to be a responsive and communicative driving machine. The subtle yet noticeable updates to the M3 lineup, along with the power increase for xDrive models, strengthen the M3's prominence as one of the best sports sedans (and wagons) on sale.
